The Life and Times of a Bibliophile - A guest post by Natalie Scott

Bibliophile: A person who collects or has a great love of books.

Okay, I have a secret to share with you: I am a total bibliophile! Ever since my third grade teacher Mrs. Buckett read me the Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe I’ve been hooked. From Catcher in the Rye to Gone with the Wind, or recent classics like The Fault in our stars, there is nothing like losing yourself in a really good book.

When life gets too much and the world feels like it’s falling down around me, there’s nothing like diving in to a really good book. If you ask me all of the best stories are about escape!

In many ways, Bebe Barkley, the main character in my new novel Becoming Famous, is my alter ego. No matter how much trouble she gets into, she always ends up on top. If only that was true in real life!

The great thing about being a writer is that you get to create this whole other world. If there’s a character you don’t like, you can just bump ‘em off! On the other hand, if there’s a character you’re madly in love with, you can still get rid of them! The last time I checked, its really hard to prosecute imaginary bodies.

I don’t know about you, but I have yet to experience that kind of freedom in my personal life. So how do you get away with murder? How do you fall in love? How do you fall in lust? How do you make a new friend? Write about it!

I’m sure there are other ways to self medicate, but if you ask me nothing beats writing, or reading a really good book.
