Challenge Carol

I loved writing Three Little Birds. I wanted it to be one of those ‘feel good’, inspirational books that plays with your emotions but also leaves you thinking, “Okay, I need to do more with my life.”
There are serious messages and some deep emotions that run through the book but it is essentially about hope, friendship, love, romance and self-discovery. It highlights the fact that life can often turn out better than you expected if you are prepared to leave your comfort zone.
I’ve always been keen on bucket lists and have been crossing stuff off mine (which I call a carpe diem list rather than the more depressing alternative) ever since I was in my twenties. I started the list because I discovered in my late teens that life is shorter than you think and stuff can happen to alter the course for you.
After completing the book, I suddenly had an urge to have a go at some of the challenges that the characters face. They are all things I had not considered before. So, I thought, why not? The inner child in me went crazy with delight and encouraged me to commit to a few mad challenges before I remembered how old I really was and tried to back out of them.
I am so glad I did the challenges. You can see what I got up to at YouTube. The shark challenge (not on YouTube) was not only the challenge I feared most but ended up being the best. You can read about it here as it had a surprise ending.
Taking up new challenges can take you on a journey you didn’t expect. Little did I imagine when I reluctantly had a go at stand-up comedy last year that I would be touring the UK (and Europe) to sell-out audiences (albeit small audiences). It came as a massive surprise and boy, am I glad I faced my fear and had a go at trying to make people laugh. I love it.

You don’t have to take up wacky or wild challenges just try something you fancy having a go at. You never know where it may take you. As for me, I’m just waiting for my invitation to The Apollo!

Author Bio:
I have always written stories. My early stories were for children and sported silly titles like Humphrey and the Dustbin Cats, Hurrah for Hugo! and Noir and Blanc – Two Naughty Cats. They taught French language to younger children and were accompanied by a tape of French songs, mercifully not sung by me.
I began writing for adults after my son left home. I converted his old bedroom into an office and set about writing humorous novels largely aimed at women of a certain age.
The rest is history. Following much media success with Mini Skirts and Laughter Lines, I signed the Amanda Wilson novels with Thornberry Publishing. In 2012, I was lucky enough to be offered a three book deal with Safkhet Publishing. They have published How Not to Murder Your Grumpy and Just Add Spice, and released Grumpy Old Menopause, the sister book to How Not to Murder Your Grumpy, in December 2013.
I now write full-time. When I am not working on a novel, I’ll be writing articles for magazines such asWoman’s Weekly, or blog posts for The Huffington Post and Indies Unlimited.
My books aim to encourage as many people as possible to age disgracefully and enjoy life. After all, life is short and ‘he who laughs…lasts!’
