Debutantes Don't Date - by Kristina O'Grady

 The blurb:

At the stroke of midnight...

One minute Grace Lancaster is an overworked event manager organising 2013’s New Year’s Eve ball… The next she’s kissing a rather gorgeous man at the Regency themed party. Everyone’s entitled to an out-of-character New Year’s kiss, right? Except Jasper Mossman, Earl of Bingham, isn’t at a costume party - he’s a real-life gentleman from 1813...

And, it seems, kissing a man in Regency London has consequences!

What Grace considers normal behaviour scandalises Regency society and so far she’s provided the irrepressible gossips of the ton with a season’s worth of conversation! In a scramble to protect her reputation, as well as his own, Jasper insists that they marry for the sake of her honour. Marrying Mr Darcy might be a 21st century girl’s dream – but the reality is far from romantic. Corsets are uncomfortable, no running water is disastrous! Grace had always planned on falling in love before she got married, but when Jasper takes her in his arms she just might believe she’s finally found her very own Prince Charming.

Thank you Kristina for asking me to review your book.

I fell in love with the cover instantly, the colours, the background, every single detail, perfect... 💖

Now, let's start with the story. Garce is the main character, she is an event organiser and we meet her at a theme party of Regency england, where she's working also wearing a costume. Then suddenly the lights go out and then there's a man. They are attracted to each otherr very much and i liked the way Kristina desribed this. They begin to kiss passionately and then someone sees them...

She sees herself surrounded by Jasper, the great kisser, and his sister Victoria. Their all wearing costumes and only after a while and after spending some days with them she realises that she landed in Regency England. Therefore she now also has to marry lord Bingham (Jasper), who was promised to another lady (lady Anne) because they were caught kissing.

Grace needs time to get used to this whole new life, with only Victoria knowing wher she really comes from. Does she even want to go back home?

Jasper and Grace click instantly and there is definitely a huge spark there. Both of them seem to fight their feelings for each other and also the lust for more...
I really liked their scenes together, very passionate and flirty, but does that fit into Regency England? I had to ask myself this question several times. I don't know much about this period of time, but it seemed a little misplaced at times and more fitting with our time. Nevertheless, I enjoyed seeing Grace's and Jasper's relationship continue. They were falling for each other more and more. The only thing I didn't like about their relationship was that it was mostly about lust and not real feelings, or let's say they didn't quite come through.

Not everything was happy and cheerful though. Lady Anne's brother wanted to see Grace gone and tried everything to get her away from Jasper, so that Lady Anne could marry him. At one point he was successful and I was only hoping for Jasper and Neal (Victoria's husband) to fine her... So therewas definely enough drama there.

Garce also had adecision to make: Staying or going home and would she even find a possibility to get home and travel time again.

Another thing I thought was strange in this books, were some scenes, especially the ones involving action, where things happened really fast some, parts didn't really connect. Suddenly something happened, without a clear explanation how it came to this.

So, all in all I enjoyed the book, especially the romantic scenes and there was also enough drama. The last spark was missing though, because of the reasons I expalined before.

And one more thing: It reminded me of a TV series called Lost in Austen (ITV, 2008), where a woman suddenly found herself in the time of Pride and Prejucide. I really liked that series :).
